Additional Activities

16.05.2011 - Wipperfürth - Europe Day celebrated at HVR

Our school’s activities took place on May 16th, 2011.
We offered an interesting programme for our pupils and parents.
At first we welcomed some special guests:

  • Mr Herbert Reul from the European Parliament in Brussels
  • Mr Joachim Keferstein from the Northrhine-Westfalian Government
  • Mr Michael von Rekowski, Mayor of Wipperfuerth

Mr Reul explained the European history to the visitors and encouraged the students to improve their knowledge of foreign languages to be able to cope with life in the growing Europe.
As a bilingual Realschule we were very proud of 10 students receiving the Cambridge Certificate and of 15 students receiving the DELF Certificate.
Furthermore students went for different performances such as poems on Europe, songs, and the European hymn.
In the classrooms you could watch little sketches of both English and French groups and their website and encouraged others to join them.
Students and teachers offered delicious food from all over Europe.
All in all you can say that the European Day was an excellent contribution to the European idea. Thanks to all who took part in it.

25.05.2011 - Brussels - Visit to the European Parliament

Click here for more pictures 50 students and 3 teachers of the HVR Wipperfuerth visited Brussels, the capital of the European Union, on May 25th, 2011.
We were accompanied by Monika Ruetten, president of the French-German-partnership of Wipperfuerth. Mrs Ruetten grew up in Brussels so she was excellently able to show us the most important places of the city.
First of all we were invited to the European Parliament.
We were shown around the different buildings and could watch a political discussion in the parliament. Then we were given a meeting with Mr Reul, Member of Parliament. The students got the opportunity to ask questions on current European politics.
During the tour on the city we were shown the famous town hall, the Atomium, Maenneken Piss and lots of others. We tasted Brussels waffles, Fries and pralines.
We had a wonderful time and a great European experience!
